The Start of License Suspension After a PA DUI Conviction

Arrested after DUI

If you are convicted or plead guilty to a Pennsylvania DUI, the Clerk of Courts of the county where you have been convicted is required to send notice of the conviction to PennDot. PennDot will then send you a notice by mail informing you that your Pennsylvania Driver’s license will be suspended on a certain date.

You must then turn your driver’s license in at a PennDot Driver’s License Center. If you do not surrender your driver’s license to PennDot, you will not receive any credit towards your suspension for the DUI.

So, if you do not act by surrendering your driver’s license, not only will you be driving with a suspended driver’s license, but you will not get any credit for the period that you driver’s license was suspended.

It is extremely important to check your mail for the PennDot Notice. If you have problems getting your mail you should contact PennDot soon after your DUI conviction.

This procedure also applies if you have plead guilty to a PA DUI, but received Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) with a driver’s license suspension.
