Intersections are some of the deadliest places for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. A recent article in TIME looked for the most dangerous intersection in America, and found it right here in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.
Conducting the Research
The conclusion was made after TIME researchers scoured data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They looked at the most recent data available (2003-2012), as well as the number of traffic fatalities that occurred within a 150-foot radius of one another. Then they focused on the accident sites where two roads intersected.
The Most Dangerous Road Conclusions
The intersection in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, where Knights Road crosses Street Road, was named the most dangerous in the nation. During a 10-year time period, the intersection saw seven fatal crashes. Where Street Road approaches the intersection, there were 144 accidents in the two years leading up to the research project. 170 people were injured or died as a result of these accidents.
