September 19 – 25, 2010 is Child Passenger Safety Week in the United States. The purpose of this week is to highlight the importance of using appropriate child restraints that are correctly installed in vehicles to prevent unnecessary child injuries and fatalities.
The U.S. government estimates that nearly 75% of children are riding in car seats that are not properly installed or are not riding in car seats at all.*
On September 25, locations throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania will be helping parents make sure that their children are safe by offering free child safety seat inspections. Inspection sites include local sheriffs’ offices, state police offices and car dealerships. You can click on these links to find a complete list of New Jersey car seat inspection locations and Pennsylvania car seat inspection locations. These inspections are not limited to September 25. Many places offer free inspections according to posted inspection hours or by appointment throughout the year.
Riding in the correct child safety seat is not just the law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It can be a matter of life and death for your child. As Delaware Valley accident attorneys, we have counseled families after their children have been hurt or killed in Philadelphia crashes and Mercer County wrecks. We know the anguish, grief and guilt that follow such an accident and we encourage you to take the steps necessary to protect your children as best you can from future accidents.
