The 100 days between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend are historically known as the busiest road travel times of the year. As we end this year’s heavy highway traffic season, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) is estimating nearly 2.2 million vehicles will be traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike over the holiday weekend.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is Taking Early Action To Help Ease Congestion
Officials are already preparing for the influx of drivers, especially in light of ongoing maintenance and construction activities on the PA Turnpike. These activities will be suspended starting September 3 at 3 p.m., resuming on September 9 at 6 a.m.
PTC Chief Executive Officer Mark Compton announced that his commission will be supplying extra patrol personnel during the busy weekend to ensure motorists have help if they break down while traveling on the Turnpike.
The PTC is also sponsoring a “Safety Break” event at the Sideling Hill Service Plaza in Fulton County on September 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drivers are also encouraged to download the PTC’s Trip Talk app that streams audio safety advisories to smartphone users so they can be informed of important traffic information without taking their hands or attention from the wheel. You can learn more about the app and download it for Android or iOS on the Turnpike’s website.
Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Will Be Cracking Down on Drunk & Aggressive Drivers
The Pennsylvania State Police will increase its patrols during the Labor Day weekend, watching for aggressive and reckless drivers, as well as cracking down on drunk drivers. Officers will be on the lookout for people who are texting and driving, speeding, tailgating, and weaving in and out of traffic. DUI checkpoints will also be in effect along with “roving patrols” throughout the weekend in an effort to identify and remove drunk drivers from our roads.
Plan for Safe Labor Day Travel
If your Labor Day plans take you away from home this holiday weekend, make sure you leave plenty of time to arrive at your destination in case of heavy traffic or unexpected emergencies. Don’t forget to pack a car emergency kit, make sure your vehicle is in good working condition, and only drive when you are alert and sober.
Cordisco & Saile LLC wants everyone to have an enjoyable and safe Labor Day weekend. Please remember to celebrate responsibly and arrive to and from your parties safely. And remember – we are here to help if other drivers do not pay them the same courtesy and cause an accident. Contact us for information regarding your legal options: 215-642-2335.
