Long-term care centers treat victims of all sorts of accidents.  Bucks County personal injury lawyer Michael L. Saile, Jr. has worked with many clients who have had to spend time in long-term treatment centers in order to recover from their serious Philadelphia area accident injuries.  These treatment centers have a team of doctors who specialize in a variety of treatment methods in order to rehabilitate New Jersey and Pennsylvania accident victims.

The process that you can experience at a long-term injury treatment center could go as follows:

  • Medical examination and medical records review – This is where you will be examined by a doctor to get an initial layout of your treatment plan. Since you will have likely spent time in a hospital prior to moving to a long-term care facility, your new treating doctor will do a thorough review of your hosptial and/or surgical records in order to fully understand they type of injuries you have sustained and what your physical limitations are.
  • Medication management – Your current medications will be assessed and a determination made about which ones you should continue to take.
  • Electro diagnostic testing – This term covers a wide spectrum of specialized tests that include the electromyogram and the nerve conduction study. While much of this diagnostic testing would have already been performed to initially diagnose your accident injuries, follow-up studies may be desired by your long-term care physicians.
  • Diagnostic ultrasound studies – These studies are done to diagnose tendon tears, abnormalities, muscle bleeding and hip dislocations. As with other diagnostic tests, these may be completed to compare results from tests originally run at the time of your injury.
  • Physical therapy – Most of your day will likely be devoted to special forms of physical therapy directed to treat your particular injuries.  You can expect session of both physical and occupational therapy to be performed.
  • Pain management – Depending on your injury, pain management might be part of your treatment regimen, and could consist of some or any one of the following procedures:  epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks and trigger point injections, chiropractic procedures, or massage therapy.
  • Final medical examinations – During these examinations, your doctor and specialists will evaluate your condition and conclude what at home or outpatient treatment you will need to continue with in order for your injuries to heal and for your mobility to improve. If you have achieved maximum healing, you can be released from treatment. If your doctor feels your injury requires more time, you could receive more treatment.

Some of the specific treatment options that long-term treatment centers offer are:

  • Spinal adjustments – a chiropractor can use one of over 20 adjusting systems to bring your spine back to normal function.
  • Extremity adjustments – these are done pretty much the same way and for the same purpose as spinal adjustments.
  • Physiotherapy – this method uses electrical muscle stimulation, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound and intersegmental traction.
  • Massage therapy – this treatment method works out your muscles and loosens them up after an accident.
  • Therapeutic exercises – this type of exercise can improve circulation and aid in recovery.
  • Orthopedic supports – items such as orthopedic braces and supports are useful for relieving back pain.

Long term care facilites are often a necessity for those who have sustained serious injuries as a result of PA car accidents, but they are also very costly.  Protect yourself and your family’s assets by hiring an experienced Bucks County personal injury lawyer to help you obtain the compensation you deserve for the damages you’ve incurred.  Call the PA car accident attorneys at Cordisco & Saile LLC to talk to a personal injury lawyer.
