Suspect in Deadly Middletown Pedestrian Accident Surrenders

A suspect in a fatal Middletown Township pedestrian accident surrendered to authorities on Tuesday afternoon, August 7, 2012. The incident in question took place on July 22, along New Falls Road in Bucks County.

According to reports, John Rearick was struck while walking along New Falls Road on July 22. He was on his way home. Rescue crews transported him to a local hospital where he lost his life due to injuries a few days later.

The driver allegedly fled the accident scene. However, he turned himself in earlier this week. He has been identified as 27-year-old Jonathan Simmons.

“A 23-year-old young man should not be dead because he was walking home,” said the victim’s mother, Sharon Rearick. “It just shouldn’t be. You shouldn’t have to bury your kid.”

Mr. Simmons has not been charged in the death of Mr. Rearick. He has only been charged for fleeing the accident scene. However, he is scheduled to be back in court later this month.

The fatal Middletown pedestrian accident remains under investigation by local authorities. Mr. Simmons reportedly admitted to police that he was driving the vehicle involved in the collision.

This is a terrible incident, and we extend our deepest thoughts and condolences to Mr. Rearick’s family and friends during this tragic time.
