Types of Medical Providers For Accident Victims: Acupuncturist

Acupuncture: A Viable Treatment for Accident Injury

Head, neck and back injuries are typical for Pennsylvania auto accident victims and acupuncture is one type of alternative medicine that offers relief from the pain associated with them. In fact, back pain is the most common symptom for which people use acupuncture.

Acupuncture is one pain treatment option, but whole body treatment is essential as some injuries, while mild, may be initially overlooked. Minor pain that is ignored or untreated can lead to improper healing as scar tissue develops.

Common symptoms of soft tissue (skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments) injury include:

  • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Low or Mid-Back Pain
  • Numbness or Tingling
  • Muscle stiffness

Acupuncture utilizes thin metallic needles inserted into the skin at specific anatomical points that are either manipulated by hand or via electrical stimulation. Side effects are reported as minimal, and relatively few complications from its use have been reported to the FDA, which regulates the needles used by licensed practitioners. Acupuncture needles must be labeled for single use and be sterile and non-toxic under FDA guidelines.

Critical to long term recovery is identification of both major and minor injury that is a common occurrence in accidents. Conventional medical treatment and medications are effective for short-term pain reduction though sometimes they also mask the source of pain.

Health care providers are a good resource for referral if acupuncture is a considered treatment for an individual to relieve pain caused by a PA or NJ accident. It’s a good idea to let all of your care providers know the conventional and alternative therapies that have been used to treat your accident injuries so that the best possible recovery outcome from an injury is possible.

NCCAM, the National Institute of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine says of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, “Acupuncture has the largest body of evidence and is considered safe if practiced correctly.”

The Philadelphia and Mercer county area personal injury lawyers at Cordisco & Saile LLC have experience helping those suffering from the pain of an accident to obtain the compensation needed for acupuncture treatment.

If you or a loved one has pain sustained from an auto accident, contact Cordisco & Saile LLC to find out how their expertise can prove your accident injury.
