Philadelphia Car Accident Claims the Lives of 2, Injures 1

A Philadelphia car accident involving two vehicles claims the lives of two people and sends a third person to a local hospital. The incident took place at approximately 3:00 PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge.

According to police, a car traveling northbound on Kelly Drive along the Schuylkill River crossed the center line and slammed into a minivan head-on. Unfortunately, two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Both victims were reported to be women.

Rescue crews transported the driver of the minivan to a local hospital where the driver was treated for injuries sustained in the accident. The driver was listed in critical but stable condition. It is unclear if anyone was else was involved in the crash.

The identities of the three victims were not immediately made available. Emergency crews closed Kelly Drive in both directions as officials investigated and cleaned up the crash scene.
